Making a creative machine embroidered bag

There are different kinds of bags: travel bags, elegant women’s purses for everyday use, big and small bags made of genuine leather or coarse fabric. Creative machine embroidery will make any of them stand out. Such as the design pictured here.

Machine embroidery on bags isn’t easy. In most cases, many of the bag’s details do not allow tracing of the design. To overcome this, you’ll need to unstitch the seams, do the embroidery and sew the bag back up afterward.
We suggest doing it in a different way. You can find a bag pattern on the Web or use an old bag as a template.

Denim or dense cotton is the best bag material. You can use imitation leather as an alternative. In the last case, you’ll need less stabilizing.
If you do not have a vast experience in machine embroidery, we suggest that you pick a very simple sole-colored embroidery design. By doing that, you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble with choosing suitable threads and stabilizers. After laboring on a big size multicolored machine embroidery for many hours, it is extremely vexing to have an embroidery machine breakdown or a problem with the underthread. Your whole work goes to scrap. When embroidering on imitation leather, you won’t have a chance of redoing the whole thing, for the needle leaves holes in it. You’ll have to cut out this detail once again.
The item’s density is another problem. The leather is a dense material as it is, even without the lining. If you add a dense embroidery to it, the whole thing will become yet thicker. You’ll have to add the lining in order to hide an ugly underside. For this very reason, we suggest that you place your design in such a way that the back side of the embroidery won't be visible even when the bag’s open. This will result in a better look of the ready item.
If you embroider on cotton or denim, choose the faux silk threads, and if you use the synthetic fabric or leather, pick polyester threads. These kinds of threads are more durable and long-wearing.
One last thing: before making a bag, first try something easier, like a smartphone case or a cosmetic purse. This will give you the opportunity to value your machine embroidery adeptness and understand the problems that might lie ahead.
