Depends on a tshirt . Some are very bad no matter what you use. Generally thsirts that are over 220gsm embroider very well with just normal tear away 75g folded. But have really hard time on 190gsm shirts (same design same backing) .
I stabilize the T-shirt with (iron on) ARMO-WEFT 1st, then either tear or cut away Depending upon how many stitches are in the design.

Never only use a tearaway of a washable item! I also use a no show iron on mesh. I iron on the back of the shirt (I prefer a nice gilden shirt holds up well. I get from jiffyshirts.com nice price and fast ship) I also never hoop my shirts. I float them. No show mesh ironed onto back of shirt, I hoop either another layer of no show or a tearaway (depending on design) and then use a quilt spray basting to attached the shirt to the stabilizer hooped.
